April 2023 Project Updates
This is the fourth update of 2023. Here we go.
Louetta Rd. clean-up – After weeks of cutting, trimming, hacking and brush-hogging, we have finally managed to clear up much of the dense undergrowth along Louetta Rd. This job turned out to be bigger than we anticipated. In the end we cut down nine dead pines trees and numerous other smaller yaupons, saplings, vines and miscellaneous vegetation. We now have a clear path between the trees and our fence line so that we can run a brush hog along the strip and maintain it annually. Now that we have a handle on the growth, it will be much easier to manage.
Street signs – Our new street signs have been installed throughout the entire community. The board believes that this is a much-improved look for our community. No doubt, our delivery service people are liking the upgrade as well. If you would like one of our old street signs, contact Rick Fisher.
Landscaping – Because the Louetta Rd. project went over budget, we had to scale back on the grand design we had in mind for the front of the subdivision. That said, we have made several improvements, especially to the area directly surrounding The Reserve sign. We will re-examine our design again next year. A big thank you goes out to Cheri Kline, Mike Willand, Ruth Jones and Nelson Jones for their flexibility and hard work with all of our vegetation.
Lake – This week we will be bringing dirt in to fill in the holes and the sunken trench along the south and north sides of the lake. These depressions are the result of our lake water mitigation process and our underground sprinkler repair. We are hoping that the dirt has settled and that when we fill in the areas, this will be a permanent solution. BTW, fishermen at the lake are reporting numerous bass and blue gill being caught. Looks like our re-stocking program last year is working. Remember, all fish caught are to be released back in the lake.
Pool house re-painting – The pool house has been re-painted with a new color scheme. The painting includes all portions of the building, including the restrooms, exterior doors and front metal gate. We used a high-quality Sherwin Williams paint that is expected to last for many years. A huge thank you goes out to Steven Schaeffer for his diligence and hard work in heading up the pool committee and doing much of the prep work and post work needed for the painting. The pool is expected to open on April 15th.
Social Events – Upcoming events:
- April 1st – spring celebration (completed)
- April 29th – community garage sale (same date as The Settlement & Stable Gate)
- June 24th – Lemonade Wars
- To be determined – Ice Cream Social
Mailbox maintenance – No doubt you have noticed that our community mailboxes are getting old and “crusty”. We are currently working on a renovation program to scrape them down and repaint them. The board is going to do a “beta test” on one of the mailboxes to see the best way to do this. Once we perfect the process, we will do all of them. We may need a few volunteers to assist on this. Look for this to happen in the next month.
Special Thanks – Since joining the board Rick Fisher has gone above and beyond on all projects relating to our community. His assistance has been instrumental in getting projects done. Here are just a few of the things he’s been working on:
- Assisted with the Louetta Rd. project, which included the corner of Telge Rd. & Louetta Rd.
- Assisted with our sprinkler inventory, repair and maintenance.
- Assisted in tree trimming and clean up around the entire subdivision.
- Assisted in installing our street signs.
- Assisted with gate management.
- Assisted with landscaping at the front of the subdivision.
- Worked with our bank to come up with a much-improved account that yields much higher interest returns.
And when we say “assisted” we mean that he had tools in his hands, physically doing much of the labor involved in completing the job. If you see him, please say thank you.
